Photo of the Day -- Enjoying Alaska's Mountain Meadows
We were on our way home from a job, and landed here to take a little hike. This is my good friend Gar and my wife Samantha headed for the cubs. We don't often have extra room for a passenger, but it's always fun when Samantha gets to ride along on a job. Gar is the man who taught me how to fly a super-cub, and we do quite a bit of hiking together in the summer.
This photo was taken on June 21st following a winter with minimal snow cover. For those wanting to spend time in the mountains I would say that by June 15th most of the snow is melted up to 6500'. This green meadow is at 5500' and is even more brilliant in the month of July. Caribou and sheep can be viewed on a daily basis, not to mention the unique geological formations surrounding this site. We have hauled countless backpackers and geologists into this location over the years, and I have never seen a disappointed face yet. Ok. So July in Alaska? Hmmmm. :o) 5500'. I'm at 5280' now. I think I can hang in July. Beautiful!
